1 Star Lasted 16 months - then died
I wish I had done more research on Philips repairs before we bought our 50" plasma 16 months ago. Just Google "philips repairs" and get ready to read the horror stories. It's amazing a company can stay in business nowadays with such poor customer service and products. They look good, but don't count on them to last.

I bought this tv and i could not be more pleased with it, it work's great, & has the best picture i have ever seen, It's connected to fiber optic and the picture looks like it's real, I have one in my coach and it gets bounced around a lot and it plays as good as the one in the house, the way I look at it if high End motorcoaches install it in there units it got to be a great product.Hey they do have lemons out there.

1 Star 50PFP5332D board problems
This tv does in fact have high failure rate I know I purchased one

January 2 2008 and the tv would turn its self off after only minuets

of watching. Little trouble shooting with Philips shows that the unit had power board failure. Also when you would turn the tv off only the screen would sometime go out the power board would remain on with led lights on the board still Glowing. you can view the green led lights on the board by looking through the vent holes from the back. When the is turned off the lights should go off PER Philips. Sometime mine would sometime they would remain on after turning the unit off.

I returned the tv for replacement and the second tv did the same exact thing the TVs were MFG only one month apart. I wounder how many people have this same set that are not even aware of the power board not shouting off? If I had two sets with same problem you know there has to be many out there with same falure.

This tv looks great that is what sold me and the price and the name Philips. I got my refund and purchased a Samsung. after all this and dealing with Philips. When I see the name Philips I turn my head. Never again will I purchas a Philips brand again

5 Stars Awesome Picture... Great Plasma TV
I was a bit skeptical when I read some bad reviews on this TV but the price was too good to ignore. I have owned it now for a week and I am more than happy.

The picture quality is awesome, even the non HD chabbes are great. The remote is simple to use and light.

I hope my TV lasts longer and based on the picture quality and price, I will give this 5 star!

1 Star Philips 50PFP5332D 50" DEAD IN 5 MONTHS, 2nd one DEAD IN 33 DAYS!
This TV had a beautiful picture, for the first 5 months then died. Mfg. Warranty specifically states Philips has the right to send out a refurbished TV as the replacement, it took 2 months to arrive from Ohio. The replacement lasted 33 days and began to turn itself off. Contact w/Philips Cust. Service, again they stated per policy, they want to send another refurbished model or a LCD TV instead of the plasma unit. Research indicates this mfg. is no longer making plasma TV's for US distribution, parts and repair are almost impossible even on a 5 month old TV, opps, 33 day old TV.

Recent discussion w/ six independent repair services has informed me this model has been, and I quote, "a dog from day one"...

It's football season and my brand new big screen is no longer working!! This TV has been broken more time than it has been operable since I purchased it in Dec. 2007... SAVE YOUR MONEY, BUY ANYTHING ELSE, DONATE IT TO CHARITY, BUT DON'T GIVE YOUR HARD EARNED $ TO PHILIPS!!!

5 Stars The LG 42PG20 Plasma has exceeded my expectations!
I have owned several HDTV's both Plasma and LCD. I wanted to stick with a plasma on this purchase because of the superior contrast ratio versus a typical LCD. I went to my local electronics store intent on buying an entry level Samsung. Despite my plan, I soon realized I could not pull the lever on the Samsung. Its picture suffered from severe jagged edges and presented an inferior image quality compared to the TV's surrounding it on the showroom floor. No manner of adjustments could resolve the problem, therefore I moved on to the similarly priced Panasonic and LG. I immediately noticed that the Panasonic had issues with background noise. This was despite the fact that the noise reduction feature was already turned on. The CNET editor review mentions this problem with the Panasonic plasma. Meanwhile I was impressed with the LG's smooth, clear, and lifelike picture. No background noise, and a deep rich color reproduction equal to that of the Panasonic. I decided to do some more research on LG reliablity and performance before making my final decision. As you would expect, it is easy to locate horror stories for any television brand, as of course people with a bad experience are more likely to post their sob story all over the web. The bottom line for myself was that a Consumer Review said that LG has a similar reliability record compared to other major brands, with only 2% or fewer models suffering from defects within their first year. That was sufficient evidence for myself while also taking in to account the 1 year parts & labor warranty (plus 2 years for the panel) provided by LG. I waited for a blowout sale, and then purchased the 42PG20. The first one arrived with a broken screen. Of course Plasma screens are glass unlike LCD's so they are more easily damaged in shipment. I refused shipment and soon thereafter received a replacement which arrived undamaged. Out of the box the LG is one slick & sweet looking plasma. Unlike some people, I prefer the high gloss piano black screen border. Its sleek and more upscale in appearance. I have HDTV running via an HDMI 1.3 cable. The picture is even better than it was in the store. Despite a low 1024x768 resolution, the HD reproduction is detailed and crisp. I was expecting to sacrifice a bit in this area, and am simply ecstatic that the difference between this TV and my previous 1080p is simply insignificant. As you would expect with a plasma, the colors are deep and rich. Unlike many LCD's, sports broadcasts suffer no ghosting or pixelation. SD broadcasts look great as well, with certain channels looking better after switching to cinema mode or one of the other customized picture settings. I have the LG TV ORBITER feature set to the ON position. A nice feature available to prevent image retention or burn in which can be an issue with plasma televisions. So far, this has not been an issue. I will mention a couple of minor negatives. This LG does suffer from severe glare if operated in a brightly lit room. As is the case with many plasmas, the glass screen reflects the bright windows in my living room. Thus, it will do better in a dark room or positioned with windows behind rather than in front of the TV. Also, this plasma runs HOT. It actually raises the temperature in my living room if run for a few hours. If I put my hand over the set, I can feel the heat rising from it. From what I've read, this is common with plasma TV's in general. Overall, I am VERY happy with the LG 42PG20. A great Plasma television, providing a fantastic HD picture while outperforming many of the other brands in this price range.

5 Stars Great Plasma and Better Than Expected
After the price dropped on this T.V. I decided to buy.

Wary of plasmas I still loved the high contrast ratio that this one delivered. I had the choice between this and a similar samsung and definately could see that this Lg model gave the better picture. 720p? they could have fooled me because the crispness of picture quality is terrific, one thing I was wary of with this being a 42" model.

The Darks are dark, the whites are white, and the colors are vibrant.

I keep mine set on cinema style settings and love it.

The sound is better than most flat panels and the speakers are hidden.

I like the high gloss finish, makes it look sleek.

Ghosting is minimal on this model and if you do experience some ghosting they supply different ISM methods to basically prevent or actually one called white wash which basically resets your picture. I play a lot of Xbox 360 so I was worried about the ghosting but it is not really a problem. I recently paired this with LG's LHT854 home theatre system (about $220) and am enjoying a high quality home theatre setup for a decent price.

So everyone considering picking up this T.V. I say Enjoy!

4 Stars Great TV, a couple issues
Overall, I'm really happy with the TV. The delivery was prompt and they put the TV right on the stand and took the box away. Nice guy too.

Anyway, the only problems I've had with this TV was I've noticed a little bit on burn-in at times, but it seems to go away. This happens because when I watch regular TV, it's in the standard 4:3 ratio with the black boxes on each side and that creates burn-in. There doesn't seem to be any options to correct this within the TV, and it's pretty annoying.

I also have problems getting a consistently good picture over different media (video games, TV, movies,) and constantly have to adjust settings. I don't know much about TV calibration, so I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.

Picture is good though overall and I would recommend this TV to someone who wants a good HDTV on a budget.

5 Stars Excellent picture and great price
Recently purchased the Samsung PN50A550 and not only did I save several hundred off of the store price, but have been really happy with the picture quality. The color and sharpness on this TV are excellent and the setup menus and options are very well thought out. If you are serious about picture quality, this is the TV for you.

4 Stars Good Picture But Would Considered Panasonic
The PN50A550 produces good picture quality; however, after watching it for quite some time, some things stand out such as the glare is slighly annoying and the sound quality is poor at high volume (muffles). I do notice some burn in after about 1 hour of the same image but it has never been perminent and goes away after a few minuets of watching something else. Most importantly the electricity cost and heat generated by this particular Plasma would make me go back and buy a panasonic, the one on CNETs editors top choice. All in all a very good Plasma for the money but factor in electricity cost for say 5 years and it could change your mind wether it be LCD or Plasma.

4 Stars Samsung PN50A550
I have done much research before I picked this set up as probably most of the reiviewers have. And I was pretty much between picking this set up or the Panasonic PZ80 model. After much research I concluded that many opinions viewed that the Samsung has more color accuracy and more tune-able options vs the Panasonic. So I went with this one. The advice I have with people researching televisions is that do not rely too much on peoples reviews and opinions and go check out the television yourself...preferably with your bluray/ whatever source you are going to watching most. Many people are nitpicky about things that most people can't even see(especially people over at AVS forums). But I digress. The TV is awesome..comes included with a swivel stand which some people might not need.

The only nitpick thing I have with the TV is that reflection is so evident in this model. So if you have this placed in front of a window or have lights in front of the tv you will see your reflection. I knew this going in but did not know it would be this bad...since I came from a LCD background. Also don't get into the hoopla of 1080P...if it fits your need then buy it...if not just get a 720P set and save some bucks for xmas. All in all it is what I expected.

But a recommendation, Amazon is no longer doing pricematch of themselves and they dropped $100 dollars within 30 days since I bought it. They will not refund my money which they changed their policy in September..how convient on their part. I will not make big purchases on Amazon anymore because of this. Just a forewarning to those planning to purchase at Amazon.

1 Star Delivery Fiasco; can't rate the TV I don't have
Samsung PN50A550 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

Fri. Nov. 14, 2008...I was hoping to provide you will a excellent review of this TV. But alas, I can't because it hasn't ever arrived.

Imagine, my supprise when the Amazon tracker documented it had been delivered yesterday 11/13/08and signed by someone I had never heard of.

1st call to Amazon: "How are you enjoying your TV as we see if was delivered yesterday" Next they had no telephone # for Pilot the deliver company as they just stated using them last week. Twenty minutes later Amazone provides # for Pilot. Amazon offers to ship a new unit or refund my money. ADv no not yet let's try to find out what happened to the TV.

1st call to Pilot who confirms delivery of the TV in Fargo yesterday. I advised Pilot I don't have the TV. Agent adv she will check. She call back an hour later and adv the post on the tracker was an error by Pilot and the tv is still in Eagan MN where it arrived 11/10. Pilot adv they didn't have a telephone # for me so couldn't call to arrange delivery. Asked if they had contact Amazon for the #. Pilot adv no they do have access to Amazon and they only got my number when I called them this morning. Pilot adv the can deliver it next week. Adv not acceptable as they should ben able to get tele # and why would I would service from a natiowide shipper that has an agent in California comfirming he delibered a TV in North Dakota.

2nd call to Amazon to request case update and have to repeat the entire story and agent adv it will be delivered today even thought it's 250 miles away in Minn.with a company that tells me that they can't delivery it till next week.

1st call from Pilot who adv they might be able to deliver it on Monday but it will be shipped in a unheated truck and they will drop it off. Adv of Amazon While Glove Delivery program. Pilot asked I want the delivery crew to just sit around till the TV warms up for an hour before we can turn it on. Adv yes I do. Pilot adv will call back later.

2nd call from Pilot who adv it will be delivered today in a heated truck between 2 PM and 6 PM. Adv I will accept those conditions. I worked nights so normally will be in bed by that time but feel that Pilot is trying to resolve the issue so will update Amazon when delivery takes place.

Panasonic TH 65PZ850U 65 VIERA plasma TV widescreen 1080p FullHD HDTV

Panasonic?s VIERA full HD 1080p PZ850 series previewed the industry?s first IP enabled television. The introduction of the IP enabled televisions, a technology that provides access to on-line content directly from the television with VIERA CAST technology, is one of many advances found in the PZ850 line.Recognizing the growing use of Plasma HD televisions in the gaming world, Panasonic created the Game Mode, which minimizes the time lag when displaying game images on the Plasma screen. The Mode synchronizes the response of the game image to the player?s operation, thereby producing an extremely clear image with no motion artifacts.Digital Cinema Color Re-Mastering is a value added technology that allows for color reproduction, enabling VIERA displays to reproduce the essential colors for viewing movies. 24p native reproduction, which negates the need for 3:2 pulldown, resulting in a smoother picture, is another feature that provides the best possible viewing experience.

1 Star simply sucks
it`s not even 2 years since I bought this tv and it already started crapping out on me, I have been seeing blue patches, pixels moving back and forth on the side of the screen (not a burn in. the patches are moving) definitely killing all the fun and enjoyment. now samsung would charge me $100 bucks just to come and take a look at it, and the technician over the phone said he thinks it could be a defective Plasma screen and would probably be have to replaced with a new one which would cost me a hefty $$$ of course the piece of crap tv is out of warranty and although it`s a defected screen Samsung will do absolutely nothing about the situation unless I pay for it. I have seen a lot of complains over the internet about the same issue on Samsung Plasma`s so I would recommend you to buy LCD, if you set your mind on Plasma then definitely go with some other brand since this Samsung is a huge piece of crap.

2 Stars Horrible Image Retention
I've had this tv for under a year. The image retention (IR) is progressively getting worse. At this point, if there is a static graphic on the screen for as short as 3-5minutes, I'll have IR for several minutes after. And yes, I have all the settings that are supposed to deter this problem. Note on page 3 of the manual at the bottom it states that burn-in and IR are NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY!!! Despite not being covered, when I called about the problem, I was referred to the local warranty repair shop and they attempted to fix the problem by replacing the pc boards (not sure exactly which ones). That didn't help at all. Then they took the tv to their shop. After which they informed me that the problem wasn't covered. If it isn't covered why did they even try to fix it to begin with???

I am extremely disappointed with this product.

5 Stars Excellent tv for the price!!!
I've owned this tv for 6 months now,and I'm very satisfied with the picture

quality and options. The sound could be better but is fine when using Onkyo

reciever.Picture quality for video games and dvd playback is excellent. My HD Direct TV picture looks awesome on this unit. There is some glare from

lighting in the house or the sun, but its not as bothersome as some other tv's.I have had no problems with this tv.Everything works as it should.

I would highly recomend this tv to anyone looking for the best picture, biggest size, and best price. After all, thats why I bought it!

2 Stars Read this review if you play video games
I bought this TV in January and loved it. Eventually I noticed a flickering problem where the screen brightness would flicker up and down. Read about it on the AVS forums and got it fixed through Samsung support. Then I noticed the image retention. If you play any xbox 360 games or watch tv in 4:3 with sidebars it will show up. You can run the screen burn in program that will eventually wipe it off but it always comes back next time you play. Ever play GTA4? See that radar in the bottom left? That is always going to be on your TV after you are done playing. The longer you go without wiping it with the cleaner the longer it will stay on there. If you play video games do yourself a favor and don't buy this set. I sold mine and am saving for another set preferably LCD. I just wanted to warn people trying to decide which set to buy. Avoid this set.

2 Stars Great picture until you get screen burn-in
I use this TV for my baby to watch Noggin which isn't HD. After a few weeks of use the Noggin channel logo and side black bars burned into the screen. I tried using the burn-in removal feature (Samsung recommends running it for 1+ hour )which only helps about %30. I guess this is one of the biggest draw back of plasma TVs. Totally unacceptable. This was my first plasma and will probably be my last.
