The Sylvania LC195SL8 is a 19" 720p Resolution LCD HDTV. This flat-panel LCD television has a 19" screen, measured diagonally from corner to corner. This screen size is perfect for viewing from 3' to 5' away. A 1440 x 900 resolution means that this television has 900 rows of pixels vertically. The more pixels a TV has, the clearer the images it can produce.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Nice for a small room
Nice enough TV. I was kind of disappointed because it was advertised with an HDMI input but had none. (This has since been corrected in ad). Speakers are weak and would need additionals if being used in a large room. Picture is clear and bright and it picks up the HD channels in my area just using rabbit ears.

1 Star Junk
This item lasted about one year before the screen went black. It costs as much to fix it as it does to replace it. Save your money for a decent TV.

4 Stars Beautiful quality at a decent price
I received almost the same TV but in a larger screen size as a Christmas present, so when I needed to add a second TV for my bedroom I went with the same brand. Very nice picture, decent sound, reliable.

4 Stars came in handy
I bought the TV just for the bedroom and ended up using it as a PC monitor as well as a television set. The built in tuner works great and allows me to get some HD channels that I couldn't get with my set top tuner. Very happy with it. The only downside would be the size. I didn't realize how small a 19 inch TV is because I'm use to my bigger TV in the living room.

1 Star Funai pretends to care about customer satisfaction
My daughter asked me to find a reasonably priced HD/SD/NTSC TV for college. I did a search and found this sylvania. Problems from the onset...the remote died 3 hours after use. I called and it took 6 to 8 weeks to receive a replacement. I probably could have lived with this but there is more. A week later (after the remote died) the LCD screen developed problems. It took two weeks for it to be picked up and then when I called for status they said another 6 to 8 weeks. I finally called amazon and they apologized and asked why I didn't tell them sooner? I just thought it would be faster and easier to deal with the manufacturer...was I wrong. Funai would not send me a new replacement and in fact wanted me to send it back to Amazon. What a sorry company..... I am still waiting for the TV to send it back to Amazon.

5 Stars Great Picture
I have only used this TV attached to a HD Sat. Great picture right out of the box, I have not changed settings at all.

The sound is adequate for a small room or a quiet environment but I intend to use the optical output to hook it up to my 5.1 sound system. (nice feature!)

It's amazing how light this TV is. Under 30 Pounds? The 27" glass TV this replaced weighs about 70.

5 Stars Excellent product
The TV arrived quickly and I love it. Great picture and blu-ray and HD look even better. Couldn't be happier!

5 Stars great lcd tv
Could not find this model locally. Ordered from Amazon and had it in less than a week. Very happy with the transaction-would buy it again.

5 Stars Nice TV for the money
This is a very nice TV. I have had this tv since about 7/30/08.

Pro's: The TV has a very good tuner, I was able to hook it to my basic cable with Comast and was able to get about 16 HD channels and 10 or more digital channnels. I haven't tried over the air tuner. HD channels look great, Standard Def channels look good. I have this set up in the bedroom and it works great for this purpose. 720p is all you need in this size of TV. The Favorite channels you can set up are great, on the remote you have favorites a to c and you can set 4 channels under each letter.

Con: Remote has to be pointed directly at the TV but not too bad

Other thoughts: I still haven't hooded this to my Direct TV receiver yet, so I can't comment on how the digital picture looks like from it! Nor have I gamed on it yet. TV does have a game setting and game timer!

If you are in the market for a 32' LCD and want a quality brand name for a good price with plenty of options this is the one for you!

5 Stars Great TV. Best value for the money spent.
This is my first HDTV (I am an electronics engineer so, it took very long for me to buy one that i like). But this tv blows me off. Great natural colors, no bright and deep colors as in other samsung and toshiba Tvs.

The Menu is simple but even then it gives wide range of adjustments. Don't be attracted by the video reviews of the other TVs given all over the internet about the different options you can change on your TV because you know what, not many people use all those menu items. This has got bunch of inputs to it and it also have a headphone jack. I added my Bose system to this TV and it really gives a great Movie Experience.

The edges can be a little too glossy, but if you are a person who likes to keep the things neat, you will love the gloss.

Very useful menu item as skipping the Inputs makes this more versatile.

16 ( 4 x 4 ) Customizable favourite channels make life a little more easy. I bought this TV for the olympics and the NBC gives a HighDefinition Feed using the regular cable(no HD receiver required to watch some of the channels like NBC, TNT, A&E ) and its absolutely stunning. I also get some digital channels that are great. The audio can be skipped between mono, stereo, surround where available.

This is a tv that can be rated more than 5.

Pros: Everything.. really amazing tv.

I cannot believe you are still reading the review instead of going to the store and buying one. But for those who " have to read " here are the

cons: The Remote has to be really pointed to the receiver which can be a pain somtimes and also the channels skip a little slow, but that doesn't bother me.

note: avoid plasmas they give out toomuch glare.

If you are looking for a tv at this size, it really doesn't make a lot of difference between 720p and 1080p/i. it only matters when you go for a more bigger tvs.

And as an electronics engineer , i can safely say, that Sharp carrys one of the greater tv screens if not BEST.

Hope this review helps.

Please email me with questions. more than happy to reply.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars A good, basic set with great HD performance
I have to admit I bought this set on an impulse, without a lot of research. I needed a new TV, I'd heard and read some positive reviews about Vizio (in general, not this set in particular), it looked great in the store (don't they all) and the price was right. So without any experience with or knowledge of HD televisions I took the plunge.

Set up couldn't have been easier, although the down-facing inputs are a little difficult to access. The manual and back panel are well diagramed and it was simple figuring out what goes where. I had the cable box and DVD player hooked up immediately and was watching standard def TV within 5 minutes of getting it out of the box. I got an HDMI cable the next day from my cable company for $9 (DON'T OVERPAY for an HDMI cable!) and was accessing the Hi-Def channels after that one simple connection.

The 32" size is perfect for my small (15 x 15) living room. I was immediately impressed by the picture, but the factory settings for brightness and color were way too high for my taste. After getting slightly frustrated with the many picture adjustment settings and choices and having trouble getting a consistently good picture from channel to channel, I found a review online on cnet of the similar VX32L which listed the exact settings they used for the review...I transferred those settings to my set then slightly tweaked them to my liking and the picture is now pretty close to perfect.

Like I said, I have no experience with HD so I can't say if this set has a better picture than its competitors, but standard-def stations are actually better than I expected they would be and most hi-def content is absolutely amazing. If you're getting this set to watch sports that are shot and broadcast in HD you will not be disappointed. I can't imaging the picture being any better - it far exceeds my expectations. That being said, if you expect all channels to look like the HD demos they display in the stores, you're in for a let down (nothing to do with the Vizio, but the majority of programing out there is still standard def). It takes a little getting used to the bars on the side or the stretched image (depending on what mode you choose to watch standard TV on), but the Vizio makes it easy to access the menus and experiment with those different viewing modes. Some of the other hi-def content has been a mixed bag. Most of the sitcoms on TBSHD don't look that much better than the standard-def versions. The movies on HBOHD are considerably better than the standard broadcasts, but none have blown me away with crisp detail and vivid color like the sports and concert content have.

The Vizios remote is very basic. Adjust volume, change channels, choose input source, and bring up the menus. That's it. Unless you have another universal remote that can handle all the Vizio's options you're going to need at least one other remote to fully operate your system. Another minor complaint is that the viewing angle is not as good as advertised. I found that viewing off center by as little as 25 or 30 degrees dulls the picture considerably. No big deal for me, but something you might want to investigate if it's important to you. On the plus side, room lighting had very little affect on the quality of the picture - it looks just as good in the day with the blinds open as it does when the room is completely darkened. A nice surprise.

The built-in sound is adequate. Typical simulated surround sound option and a basic equalizer. Clear dialog and good enough to live with until I get a real surround system, but nothing to write home about.

DVDs look just fine, but it's hard to get excited over the quality after experiencing the HDTV. Just keep in mind that DVDs that aren't already 16 x 9 will still have to be viewed with bars (top and bottom, or side to side depending on the original aspect ratio) or be stretched (i.e. distorted) in order to fill the screen. Know this going in, as this is the top complaint I'm hearing in talking to other new wide screen owners.

Overall all I'm very happy with my purchase. I think I had realistic expectations of what standard def programming would look like on an HDTV and I'm satisfied (though not thrilled) with the Vizios performance. I am thrilled, however, with the Vizios HD performance - It is amazing, and I would recommend this set to anyone looking for an affordable entry point into HDTV.

5 Stars Incredible Quality
This is our first LCD HDTV and I am extremely happy with it. The picture quality is gorgeous and the price is very inexpensive. I dare say that the quality is matched with Sony and Samsung!! That's just my opinion.

I love that there are all these inputs, 3 HDMI, Composite, S-Video, Component and RGB.

I first hooked it up to my PC and immediately it was so nice. My goodness. I highly recommend this TV and other VIZIO's. Don't do what I've done for many, many years and stay with the higher more expensive brands. Dare to compare this one with the leading brands.

5 Stars One remote fits all
We bought two not only is the picture great but the cable boxes like it too. We replaced our westinghouse tv's with Vizio's and now we can use the remote that came with the cable DVR for everything.

5 Stars Awesome Value
If you want to get Hd television for little money, VIZIO is amazing/ The built-in hd tuner is awesome! The picture quality is outstanding & it weighs nothing! The only downfall to this LCD is that there are no audio outputs, so could be frustrating. If you are like me though & have a cable or sattelite receiver you can just run your audio straight from the box to your receiver w/ minimal problems. Amazing quality for the price/ worth a try!

The 22LV505 is the ideal space-saver, offering a stunning LCD HDTV with a built-in DVD player. It's the all-in-one solution with a convenient, sleek cabinet.

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Update from my other model...still needs help
This model was purchased to replace my two daughters' 19 inch Toshiba LCD/DVD combo. Review can be found on here. At first sight, you think that you can't go wrong. It is a wonderful little television for the purpose of bedroom; especially child's bedroom!

The good:

Picture quality is great.

Plays DVD's as of now. (Old model is picky and only likes Disney DVDs)

Volume control and rest of functions can be accessed by Direct TV remote.

Sound is awesome... at night we have to leave it at LEVEL 5 out of 50. Very loud.

The BAD:

I just noticed the other night that if you are beneath the screen, even a foot, then forget the picture quality!! Everything was DARK and GRAY. My Toshiba REGZA in my bedroom does not do this at all!

The HD channels that is picks up on its' own aren't that abundant, compared to the REGZA.

Finally, the picture is nice, but it isn't vibrant the way a new television should be.

So... now that you know the good and bad, you will not be disappointed. IF this is for a bedroom then it will suffice. If you want it for great HD viewing, then skip this. SPEND THE EXTRA dollars and buy a REGZA... the picture and quality just blows this one away.

1 Star WARNING: TOSHIBA KILLED SANTA FOR MY KID
NOTE: this is a general review about dealing with Toshiba's customer service center and their return policy. Should you have anything go wrong with your tv, this is what you can expect....

We bought a TV/DVD combo from Toshiba as a gift from Santa last year for my 8-year old so that she could watch her Full House and Lizzie McGuire movies on it in her bedroom. Unfortunately, after 4 months, the tv's picture stopped working. She told me to send it back to Santa, so off it went to our local authorized Toshiba repairman, as you cannot return these items to Amazon after a certain period of time. We were told by Toshiba that the tv was under full warranty for parts and service. The repairman said no. We would have to pay at least $80 in service repairs. Well, it's been six months and we have yet to see our tv. The part that was supposedly broken was out of stock. Toshiba has sent out part after part after part...spending more in shipping and parts I'm sure than we actually paid for the tv. Now they are shipping out their 4th part...and we still have no tv and it's November. NOTE: the Toshiba representatives were rude and their supervisor (Dave Thomson) was scripted and condescending. TOSHIBA DOES NOT STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT AND DOES NOT HELP ITS CUSTOMERS.

My daughter got so upset that Santa didn't return her tv that we had to buy her another tv a few months ago. Then, she overheard one of the numerous heated discussions between my husband and Toshiba. Every time my husband called, we were told the issue would be "escalated". The representatives are scripted and said whatever they could to passify us. In the end, we were told by Toshiba's supervisor (Dave Thomson) that this was their final decision...to just continue to keep trying to fix an inferior product with no hope that it may get fixed. By the time we get the tv back, if we get it back, it will no longer be under warranty.

In the end, with no return of her original tv and the numerous phone calls to/from Toshiba, my daughter finally got the clue and realized Santa doesn't exist. Thanks Toshiba. MAY NO PARENT EVER RELY ON YOUR PRODUCT AGAIN! THE TECHNOLOGY IS LOUSY AND YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AN EMBARRASSMENT! GIVEN HOW TIGHT CONSUMERS' WALLETS ARE THIS SEASON, I HOPE PEOPLE LOOK PASSED YOUR BRAND AND SELECT A BETTER CHOICE.

FYI...When we purchased the tv, it was not made clear to us that it would be outdated within 14 months with the switch to digital.

Happy Holidays from a very dissatisfied customer.

4 Stars review
Is good LCD DVD player combo,

Wish the sound/voice was stronger, or a little louder

2 Stars 2.5 stars for the second $500 lemon
due to a space concern in the bedroom we bypassed a regza and went with this 22" tv. The first one we got was incredibly defective. It turned itself on in the middle of hte night multiple times with no provocation. Then when watching broadcast channels in digital, the sound was wont to cut out for minutes at a time. Then one of our local channels, channel 3, was changed in the toshiba memory ( by itself ) to channel 50, and now when we try to navigate from channel 3 to the next channel, it jumps to channel 57! so the channels were all mixed up. my father went back to the store and they told him that hte tv's in the store all do that !

but we tried another unit of this same tv, hoping that this one was just unusually defective. no such luck. this one also has major problems with the sound where it cuts out for minutes at a time. imagine if it were after february 2009, and you could not switch back to the analog! you would lose minutes of dialogue for your favorite program! i cannot believe no one else has had any problem with this, but maybe it is due to the fact that they have cable tv and not antenna like we do.

the channels are slow to change, but you'll be lucky if thats your only problem with this tv. The sound cutting out is such a shame because the toshiba has better sound than any other brand of LCDs BY FAR. my recommendation is to get what i have in my bedroom a 32" toshiba regza 720/1080i. its a great tv. you wont be disappointed ( and comes from amazon for a nice price )

4 Stars Not bad!!
Good product for the price - I can pick up a few HD channel through my local cable service provider (even though I did not pay for it). DVD function is simple to use. Like the previous reviewer - changing TV channel takes 2 second (slight delay) - apart from that, no complain at all.
