Excellent value

I am agreeing with other reviewers that this is an excellent product with only two attributes that were not as expected:
- Touch of color really is only a "touch". Without light shining directly on it the frame looks completely black
- Sound quality is poor. The right speaker has a tendency to ring at certain frequency even at low volume.
Picture quality is excellent; the TV set is not too heavy and looks good.

Perfect TV for Limited Space

| The Samsung LN73B550 is a beautiful TV for an affordable price. If you're in the market for a LCD less than 40" then I would highly recommend this one. The colors are sharp and very crisp. Setup out of the box was extremely easy. My only quibble might be the sound quality, but I think that may be due to it sitting in an enclosed entertainment center. Samsung has become a leader in the LCD market for a reason and this TV is a testament to that fact. |
Very nice television...

| Got this instead of the A550, which was well reviewed but criticized for its speakers. This one both looks great and sounds good as well. It's sound is nothing compared to my theater system, but I have no complaints at all on it. Picture is beautiful. |
Well worth the money...until OLED TV's are cheaper

I am very happy with the Samsung LN37B550 LCD TV (and the Samsung Blu-Ray Player BD-P1600).
I do not understand how you could ever think a "Red Touch of Color" bezel means "ambient light" or even that the bezel has a "light source." As for having the Red Touch of Color on the bezel, I feel it is meaningless for most people anyways because it just helps distinguish between the 2008 LNxxA550 and the 2009 LNxxB550.
After having looked at Consumer Reports and other sites for ratings, I "settled" on the value of the B550 and did not feel the extra expense to get the B650 (with double the refresh rate) was worth the extra money. I can say that I could see the difference of 120Hz versus 60Hz refresh rate at a retailer, but for home use it was not worth it.
Shipping for me was as quoted and I really appreciate the scheduling of delivery, that way you do not have the TV sitting out for someone to steal.
I have not used the speakers on the TV since I have an external sound system. I do have issues with volume "leveling" when using Pandora on the Blu-Ray Player, but I do not believe it is related to the TV.
I wish there was actually an internal "battery" that kept the clock when there is a power-outage but that is just another component that could fail or need to be replaced so it did not diminish my rating. |
THE HDTV to buy

| I did HDTV research for more than 1 yr before I settled for this beautiful quality Samsung LN37B550. Absolutely worth every penny. This TV has the best picture quality stand-alone when compared with other sets. Now you can tell me all about contrast ratios, or viewing modes, or viewing distances, this and that, whatever and whatever, okay. To me, my eyes and ears don't lie. All the TV broadcast programs look absolutely stunning, and my place sounds already like a home theater before any stereo system set up is made. I also hooked up my Core 2 Duo (3 GHz) Dell using this Samsung as my primary monitor. The picture is outstanding. I 100% recommend this set. I was debating between a Sony, Sharp (there were a couple VERY good deals at both Costco and Bestbuy 1080p 40" for $700 or something), Panasonic, Toshiba, and Samsung, now yes perhaps you will spend like $50 or more on a Samsung, but TV quality, both inner and outer beauty, just cannot be beat. |
